Extended Day Policy

GENERAL POLICIES

An outstanding feature of Cross & Crown School is its convenient, well-staffed Extended Day Program.  Our program includes structured and unstructured play as well as learning activities in a safe, loving, and well-supervised environment.

Specific policies are outlined below:

  • Ages served: 20-month-olds through 11-year-olds (all children must be on the way to being toilet trained).
  • Children must at minimum be in disposable training pants (parents supply.)  No child may be dropped off in diapers!
  • Months of operation: During school and summer camp when offered (see school calendar)
  • Days of Operation: Monday through Friday
  • Hours of Operation: 7:00 a.m. through 6:30 p.m. (6:00 p.m. during summer camp).

ADMISSION
Due to the nature of our State of Georgia license, all students who are enrolled in Cross & Crown School, are automatically enrolled in the Extended Day program even if it is not used.  (There are no additional fees for enrollment. Fees apply only when the service is used.) Only students enrolled at Cross & Crown are eligible to benefit from the Cross & Crown Extended Day Program.  Students must be in attendance in Cross & Crown School on the days they use Extended Day.

FEES
For weekly students, payment is required weekly on Monday for the upcoming week.  Parents may pay one month in advance for Extended Day Program.  Only students whose fees have been paid will be allowed to stay in Extended Day unless the student has not been picked up during the carpool timetable. If a student is not picked up at the end of carpool, the student will be taken to the Extended Day Program and the hourly charge applies.

Payment for Extended Day must be made by cash, check, or credit card OR previously arranged automatic debit from a checking or credit account and directly deposited into the Cross & Crown account.  Hourly students’ fees must be paid on the day that extended day is used.  NO credit is given for absences for any reason.  Late fees are due at the time the child is picked up! No staff member has authority to dismiss late fees. All appeals must be directed to the principal’s office.

SAFETY RULES

All children in the Extended Day Program must obey the school playground and school safety rules (see above).

Only those authorized on the child release section of the application form or otherwise designated by a signed letter or emergency phone call from the parent, are authorized to pick up children.  Proper I.D. will be required for a child to be released into the custody of a person other than a parent.

BEHAVIOR

As the Extended Day Program is a part of Cross & Crown School, the same level of behavior, self-control, and respect for personnel are expected as in the regular School program.

To insure that proper behavior is observed, the following disciplinary structure is employed:

  • Time-out may be employed.  Time-out is used primarily as a means of calming down a child; the length of time will be no more than 10 minutes.
  • If deemed appropriate, a conference with the Principal and parents may be called.
  • Suspension from the Extended Day Program may occur either as a result of the above conference or because of an additional misconduct committed thereafter.
  • In extreme cases, a child will be removed from the Extended Day Program altogether.

No outside toys (toys brought from home) will be allowed other than nap toys and blankets. No electronic devices of any type are allowed.

No child can be kept in Extended Day Program without prior arrangements being made through the office.  Our program is limited because of staff-child ratio, which we must abide by for your child’s protection.

CLOTHING

Because of the wide range of activities, it is recommended that children be dressed in washable, comfortable clothing.  Tennis shoes are also recommended.  No flip-flops, cowboy boots, or jellies are permitted.  Water activities, sand play, and occasional bathroom accidents necessitate that an extra set of clothing be kept at School at all times.  Please mark all clothing with child’s name.  If wet or dry clothes are sent home, parents must return a clean set of extra clothes the next morning.

Please remember that children are taken outdoors daily (weather permitting) and should be dressed accordingly.  Although the children may be indoors most of the day, outdoor clothing should be included in what they bring to school. All clothing must be marked with the child’s name.

FOOD AND REST TIME

Children attending the Extended Day Program will bring a nutritional lunch from home.  The lunch must meet the guidelines established by the USDA.  These guidelines are posted on the parents’ information board on the left in the reception area.  Milk (2%) or 100% fruit juice will be provided by Cross & Crown School.  A nutritional snack and drink will be provided after 3:00 PM.  A mid-morning snack is provided by parents during the Preschool/School Program.

All children in the Extended Day Program at 1:30 p.m. will be expected to rest for a minimum of 45 minutes at naptime.
