Class Objective: Since this will be the first school experience for a 2-year-old child, the objective is to assure that the time in school is a happy experience.

Work Habits – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Follow simple directions
  • Clean up after work and play with help

Cognitive Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Listen and follow one directional command
  • Listen to a short story
  • Look at books and pictures
  • Recognize the names of body parts (head, arms, legs, fingers, feet)
  • Recognize the names of clothing pieces
  • Try to recognize the names of the 4 basic shapes
  • Understand relational terms such as to, on top of, under, behind, up and down
  • Sing and clap to rhythms
  • Recognize basic colors
  • Start putting items in categories (animals, foods, etc.)

Personal Habits – To begin to develop:

  • Use the toilet
  • Wash hands
  • Rest at rest time
  • Try to remove and put on clothing
  • Show responsibility for own belongings (coat and book bag)

Social Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Respect authority outside the home
  • Be kind to friends
  • Play with other children
  • Sit quietly in a group for a short time
  • Try to follow in a line
  • Try to keep hands to self
  • Meet people without shyness
  • Try to take turns and share

Physical Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Roll a ball
  • Step up and balance on a stool and then step down
  • Use simple tools and materials to use large muscles
  • Use finger plays to build small muscles
  • Try to ride a tricycle
