Class Objectives

Work Habits – To develop the ability to:

  • Make good use of time
  • Choose a variety of work; work without disturbing others
  • Do tasks carefully and neatly; complete tasks
  • Clean up after work and play
  • Follow directions
  • Work independently

Cognitive Development – To develop the ability to:

  • Count by rote to 20; understand quantity concepts to 10
  • Know name, address and telephone number
  • Recognize the letters of the alphabet
  • Distinguish the likeness and differences in sounds
  • Recognize the directional skill for reading (left to right)
  • Recognize and name shapes (circle, square, rectangle and triangle)
  • Recognize and name 8 colors; recognize numerals 1 – 10
  • Speak in proper sentences and clearly so others understand
  • Be able to share experiences with the class and tell a story in proper sequence
  • Listen to a story for 10 minutes with comprehension
  • Listen to and follow 3 directional commands
  • Understand all relational terms (behind, between, through, in, out, etc.)
  • Enjoy singing and taking part in musical activities
  • Know letter sounds; recognize rhyming words
  • Classify items from general category to sub-category (Food:  fruit or vegetable)

Personal Habits – To begin to develop:

  • Attend to personal needs with little assistance
  • Fasten jacket or coat
  • Take responsibility for own belongings
  • Try new foods, have acceptable table manners

Social Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Play well with others; join in organized games
  • Claim only fair share of attention
  • Accept and respect authority, accept constructive criticism
  • Share with friends
  • Listen when others speak, talk and laugh softly
  • Meet people without shyness
  • Attend to own business – not others

Physical Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Use scissors and crayons properly
  • Walk in lines; alternate feet on the stairs
  • Bounce and catch a ball
  • Pump a swing, begin to jump rope
