Class Objectives

Work Habits – To develop the ability to:

  • Listen to and follow directions
  • Work independently
  • Make good use of time
  • Do tasks carefully and neatly
  • Complete daily class work

Cognitive Development – To develop the ability to:

  • Count by rote to 100; understand quantity concepts to 20
  • Rote count by 5’s  to 100, by 10’s  to 100
  • Show a set with more or less
  • Show longer or shorter objects, sequence cylinders by height
  • Name coins and tell the value of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter
  • Write numbers to 20, read color words
  • Recognize a closed and open curve
  • Recognize the terms same and like
  • Recognize ordinal number words to tenth
  • Recognize and match 1 – 10 words.
  • Work simple addition and subtraction problems
  • Tell time by the hour and ½ hour, read days of the week and months of the year
  • Read and match shape words — circle, square, rectangle, triangle
  • Sequence 4 pictures
  • Name and write the alphabet
  • Phonetically sound out basic Lippencott (or comparable series) words
  • Read from Lippencott (or comparable series) books fluently
  • Recognize the directional skill for reading (left to right)
  • Learn to keep a journal

Personal Habits – To begin to develop:

  • Attend to personal needs with little assistance
  • Take responsibility for belongings
  • Have acceptable table manners and social courtesies

Social Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Respect the rights of others
  • Interact well with others
  • Play games by rules; take turns
  • Take part in and enjoy music

Physical Development – To begin to develop the ability to:

  • Catch and throw a ball
  • Broad jump, begin to skip
  • Walk a balance beam
  • Hop on each foot for 5 feet
  • Gallop; jump rope


In the classroom…


Kindergarten is now in the full swing of things. We have a total of eight students who are getting accustomed to the daily routines of the kindergarten classroom. Homework folders will go out on September 8th! Please practice name daily, review sight words, read, and check the homework calendar for daily activities. This folder should be returned every Monday to be checked for completion.
