Kindergarten

The Kindergarten Curriculum Introduction

The Kindergarten program at Cross & Crown is a very academic program. Reading, math, writing, science, social studies and language development skill are stressed.  Children learn to work in small and large groups as well as doing individual assignments.  Although there is some play time each day, the class spends most of the day on academics.  Classroom manners, respect for others and self responsibility are emphasized.

The Kindergarten program is a full 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. school day. The children begin to wear uniforms and are considered a part of the elementary school.  Six week progress reports and report cards also begin.

Enrichment subjects in Spanish, Computer, P.E., Faith Development, Music, and Chapel are all part of the weekly program.  Community awareness is stressed though Chapel and the food pantry program.  Special collections help the children learn to give back to the community in time of disaster.

Art is incorporated in the academic units of study.  Participation in special programs for the church congregation is fostered by the school four or five times a year.  Kindergarten is the first step in elementary school and it empowers the student to move forward in school with confidence and a thirst for knowledge.  Homework begins in Kindergarten and parents are encouraged to participate in their child’s education.  Specific parts of the program are explained in the rest of the Kindergarten curriculum.
